US President Joe Biden's son, Hunter Biden, has been found guilty of lying about his drug addiction while purchasing a firearm. A court in Delaware convicted him on three criminal counts on Tuesday.

Hunter Biden, 54, is the first son of a sitting US president to be convicted of a criminal offense. He faces a maximum prison sentence of 25 years, though experts believe his sentence is likely to be shorter since he is a first-time offender. In the lawsuit against Hunter Biden, it is alleged that he purchased a .38 caliber revolver in 2018 while concealing his drug addiction. Prosecutors have brought three charges against him in this case. The first charge is that Hunter Biden provided false information when purchasing the firearm. The second charge is that he submitted false information in the arms dealer's documents. The third charge is that Hunter Biden illegally possessed a firearm while under the influence of drugs.

Hunter Biden faces up to 10 years in prison for providing false information when purchasing a firearm, up to 5 years for falsifying information in the arms dealer's records, and up to 10 years for illegally possessing a firearm while being a drug user.

Under U.S. law, citizens have the right to purchase firearms. However, when buying a weapon, individuals must disclose in the application whether they are drug addicts.

Hunter Biden has faced criticism for his drug addiction and personal life, struggling with these issues for a long time. He admitted to cocaine addiction in 2018, following the death of his older brother Beau Biden from cancer in 2015. In his autobiography, "Beautiful Things," Hunter Biden wrote that he turned to drugs after his brother's death but quit in 2019.

In the case against him, a 12-member jury heard witness testimonies over the course of a week. The verdict was delivered after about three hours of deliberation today. The court has not yet specified when Hunter Biden's sentence will be announced, but a judge indicated that sentencing typically occurs within 120 days of the verdict.
